The Great Turning

Connect with the InanItah family in a festival of deep evolutionary magic, joyful vibes, and loving energy as we come together to honor a time of Great Turning! Help us celebrate the auspicious ending of the Mayan calendar cycle that ushers in the dawn of a era of higher consciousness, the tipping of the earth on the Solstice that signals the return of the sun, and the turn of the year from 2012 to 2013.

The festival opens with a ceremony to send our prayers into the longest night of the year, in preparation for the Great Turning marked by the end of the Mayan calendar cycle and the dawning of a new potential for collective consciousness.

The days following this opening ceremony will be filled with decadent jungle foods, playful energies, and the opportunity to share gifts and make offerings to the local Nicaraguan community.

There will be a community learning exchange, in which community members, co-creators, volunteers, and visitors have the opportunity to share their gifts and skills with each other by leading short workshops. Previous learning exchanges have included tie-dyeing, jewelry-making, group painting, knot-tying, tracking skills, and hula hooping. Everyone is encouraged to participate in co-creating an open forum, in which all are teachers and all are students, sharing your individual knowledge, craft, or skill. And, there will be a community giving event during which we’ll take the opportunity to make an offering to the local Nicaraguan neighbors.

On December 28, we will come together to celebrate the peak of illumination and wholeness! We’ll honor the first full moon after the return of the sun with fire and water as we celebrate together. Festivities will include ecstatic dance fueled by the Mayan Food of the Gods–cacao.

The festival climaxes on December 31 with a wild New Year’s Eve celebration, as we set intentions for personal and collective evolution in 2013 and embark on a musical odyssey into the night.
